Essaying the role of a political leader, who is looked up to and who has had such a huge influence on the functioning of our country isn’t an easy job. Kangana Ranaut is set to do that in her upcoming film, Thalaivi, where she is essaying the role of the late actress and politician, J Jayalalithaa.

Now, just today, Kangana announced that she is set to star in another political drama where she will be essaying the role of the late former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

Addressing Indira Gandhi as “the most iconic leader that we have had in the history of Indian politics”, she said in a statement. She also shared that the film is in the final stages of scripting.

She also adds:

It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India.

The film will cover significant moments of Indian political history including Operation Blue Star and The Emergency. Kangana also mentioned that the film is going to be mounted on a large scale many ‘prominent actors’ are set to be cast in the roles of Sanjay Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi, Moraji Desai and others.

Sharing a picture from a photoshoot she did posing as Indira Gandhi, Kangana tweeted:

Kangana Ranaut also has Dhaakad and Tejas in the pipeline. She is currently in Bhopal shooting for Dhaakad. Recently, she announced the second instalment of the Manikarnika franchise titled Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda.
