Christopher Plummer, also famously remembered as the widower captain Von Trapp opposite Julie Andrews in the 1965 musical Sound Of Music, passed away at the age of 91. His close friend and manager, Lou Pitt shared the news in a media statement.
According to a report in Deadline Hollywood, the veteran actor passed away peacefully at his home in Connecticut, with his wife Elaine Taylor by his side.
Lou Pitt, in his statement further said:
The world has lost a consummate actor today and I have lost a cherished friend. I treasure the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we shared through the years.
Speaking about his legacy and his craft, he added:
Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humour and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come.
While most actors fade away into the background post the age of 70, that is when Plummer paved a flourishing career for himself, even becoming the oldest actor to win an Oscar for his tremendous performance in ‘Beginners’. He played an elderly man who comes out of the closet as gay post his wife’s death.
Plummer and his wife Elaine have a daughter, the Tony Award-winning actress, Amanda Plummer.
