When you grow up in a country as culturally and religiously diverse as India, you are bound to be influenced by more than one culture and religion, no? Our Desi Girl, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is no different. The actress, in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, shared that she has had the influence of Hindu, Christian and Islam cultures in her upbringing.

The actress was in conversation with Oprah marking the release of her memoir, Unfinished. Oprah, who said that her book reminded her of her time in India, asked PC about her spiritual beliefs and of she had a ‘spiritual foundation’. To this the actress said that she did, considering she lived in a country like India with a ‘swirling number of religions’.

In the promo to the episode, we see PC saying:

You’re right. With the swirling number of religions that we have, that live within the country as well. I grew up in a convent school. I was aware of Christianity. My dad used to sing in a mosque, I was aware of Islam. I grew up in a Hindu family, I was aware of that. Spirituality is such a large part of India that you really cannot ignore it.

Speaking about her personal beliefs when it comes to spirituality, PC says:

I am a Hindu. I pray, I have a temple at my home, I do it as often as I can. But truly to me, I am a believer that a higher power does exist and I like to have faith in that.

Recently PC was on a high after her own production, The White Tiger, went on to grab two nominations at the Academy Awards. She and husband Nick Jonas even got together this week to announce all the nominations for the Oscars this year.
