For the past few years now, we have definitely seen Indian cinema explore LGBTQIA+ stories and experiences. Of course, it’s a mixture of hits and misses, but it’s the fact that they are talking about it and telling their stories in the truest possible way, thanks to OTT platforms especially, which is progress in itself. One such film that I was looking forward to is ‘Hum Bhi Akele, Tum Bhi Akele’, starring Zareen Khan and Anshuman Jha.

Hum Bhi Akele… is a story about two very different and unlikely people, in more than one ways, who go on to build a bond that makes for the rest of the film. Zareen plays a lesbian woman while Anshuman plays a gay man, who are on a road trip together. While they spend time together, they figure out their own sexualities, fight familial prejudices, and learn more about how relationships can be formed beyond gender binaries and sexualities. The film is being directed by Harish Vyas, who has previously directed films like Angrezi Mein Kehte Hai.

The film has won the Audience Choice Award at the HBO South Asian Film Festival in New York and was also screened at Kashish, which is India’s biggest LGBTQ film festival. It’s all set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on 9th May. I sure am excited to catch it! What about you guys?
