You might recognise Sharib Hashmi as the very loyal and hilarious JK from the recently released The Family Man 2. But people who have followed him and his work know he has previously starred in the award-winning film, Filmistaan and the 2020 web series, Asur, among others.

In an exclusive conversation with us post the humungous success of The Family Man, Sharib spoke about how, though Filmistaan won a National Award and was a great film and role, he hardly found any work after it until The Family Man came along. Speaking about it, he says that people often said he was a ‘one-film wonder’ post the release of Filmistaan.

He further says:

I never thought that after Filmistaan released, I’ll have a dull patch in my career. Because it won the National Award for Best Hindi film, I won the Screen Award, and everything seemed very happy, hunky-dory and things were looking very bright. But suddenly, the projects I had signed post Filmistaan never took off, or some got stuck in the middle, some were never made, or they never got released. So considering all this, for 3 years after Filmistaan, I got no work.

Speaking about how that made him feel, he shares:

I used to feel very bad when I went to some screening and no one would recognise me. During Filmistaan, the media used to react differently, and now it felt like I was sidelined. I mean, it’s part and parcel of the game. But I felt bad because once you have tasted something, you feel sad that it’s gone now (recognition).

Well, it sure must have been a trying phase, but we are so glad he landed The Family Man and being loved and appreciated for his work. I sure can’t wait to see more of Sharib on our screens! What about you guys?
