20 seasons of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and 13 years of their lives, the Kardashian-Jenner clan is amongst the most popular families in the world at present. The 5 sisters and their super-cool momager, Kris Jenner have all been loved and hated in equal parts. The famous proverb—you can hate me but you can’t stop talking about me—is one that suits them to perfection. A couple of days back, the family got together on E! for a two-part reunion where they spoke about the show at length, discussing their personal lives and whatnot. Amongst the many things the Kardashian-Jenner clan is known for, fashion is one of them. Or should I say outrageous, trend-setting styles?
These women have carved a niche for themselves in the fashion space, thanks to their infamous penchant for eccentricity and all things luxe. In a world where trends come and go like the occasional, soothing breeze in summers, the KUWTK ladies are responsible for introducing some supremely popular fads and some that gained massive popularity only because they made their way into their closets. Ahead, we dive into some of these trends we can thank (or not) the Kardashian-Jenner for.

1. Bike shorts
The year was 2018 when the whos who of the style-setters around the world had begun showcasing this functional piece of clothing on their runways. Kim Kardashian was quick to hop on the trend and in 2019, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger and more chose to include this controversial-for-external-use clothing item in their collections. Bike shorts were widely popular back in the 80s and 90s but Kim took her love for them to a whole new level, making them appropriate to be teamed with any damn garment you can think of. Next thing we know, the bike-short was seen on everyone!
2. Nude clothing
Nude clothing today is synonymous with the Kardashians and their love for wearing neutral shades top-to-bottom. Their pictures are also the best response to anyone asking you for nudes, haha! Back when Kim married Kanye West, he had his stylist give Kim’s wardrobe a makeover and make it far subtler yet statement-making. It was then that Kim, followed by the rest of the clan, started embracing neutrals like never before!
3. Latex clothing
The thing with latex clothing is that yes it may be supremely hard to don and is probably even uncomfortable when worn (not that I would know) but it has a certain sex appeal that one (read me) can’t deny! It’s mostly got to be the same reason for Kim K as well who has been crushing on latex clothing since 2014 or so. Well, not just her, all of the sisters!
4. Luxe athleisure
In the 2010s when athleisure was on its way to becoming the next big thing, the Kardashian-Jenner clan was also embracing this fashionable side of activewear to the fullest. So whether it was Kim’s sudden style transformation after she met Kanye West or Kylie Jenner‘s long-time collaboration with Puma dating back to 2016, athleisure was definitely put on a pedestal by these reality television stars.
5. Bodycon dresses
These women absolutely love to flaunt their curves by accentuating them to the best of their abilities and nothing to the rescue like a good, bodycon dress! So whether it’s a beige, midi-dress or a mini, super-glossy latex number or a sheer piece with a not-so-sneaky show of underwear, when it comes to bodycon, their collective creative expressions know no bounds! While bodycon ensembles have been around for as long as one can remember, it is a trend embraced all too well by this powerhouse of a clan!
6. Perspex heels
When I say the Kardashians are the trend-setters of today, I truly mean it. I mean just take perspex heels or clear heels as an example. They’ve been around since the ’60s and luxury powerhouses, Prada, Kenzo and Miu Miu showcased various iterations of the clear heel on their runways starting in 2010. But in 2017 when the Kardashian-Jenner sisters began sporting them, that’s when the trend caught on like wildfire and it still hasn’t completed faded out even in 2021.
7. Thong heels
The year was 2018 and Kim was spotted in Los Angeles in her athleisure best on top and a pair of flip-flop heels on the bottom. And that’s when we knew, this was yet another element of history (think the 2000s) that was repeating itself. After that, it didn’t take too long for the rest of the sister to follow suit. And to be honest, nobody does these thong heels better than the Kardashian-Jenners do!
