So often, while trying to lose weight, we may end up doing things that may defeat the purpose. For instance, we may pay a lot of attention to the number of calories we consume, but not to the ingredients. Or we may end up starving ourselves and end up slowing our metabolism. Whichever it is, it’s important to have all the correct information when trying to lose weight.

So, we reached out to Dietician and Nutritionist Shweta Shah and asked her to host an Ask Me Anything session on the Girl Tribe by MissMalini App on losing weight in a healthy way. Tips to eat healthily, lose weight, diet for PCOS, weight management, myths related to weight loss—she answered all these questions and more! Read on to know her tips to lose weight healthily.

Q. Which foods should I avoid to lose weight?

Avoid processed foods, basically, anything that comes in packets. Fried and sugary foods should also be avoided Stay away from the word “healthy” on the so-called healthy snacks. Just don’t look at the calorie count, also check the list of ingredients for sodium, etc. Even baked snacks are not healthy as they undergo vacuum frying, which means they’re still 50% fried.

Q. Are there any juices or tea recipes that help lose weight?

Here’s a recipe for a pomegranate decoction:

  1. 1 piece of pipli or long pepper
  2. 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  3. 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  4. 1/2 cup water
  5. 15 tulsi leaves

Method: Boil water, then add tulsi, freshly ground pipli, and ginger to it. Boil for 1 minute or more. Switch off the gas and then add half a cup of pomegranate juice. Strain the mixture. Drink lukewarm.

Q. I have PCOS. Could you share some tips on maintaining weight?

Staying motivated and self-love are two ingredients that will help you manage ur PCOS. Apart from this, avoid dairy and gluten for at least two months.

Q. I’m a homemaker. Could you suggest an exercise flow for me to lose at least 10 kgs?

Try Chloe Ting‘s lower belly workouts (search for her on YouTube), 50 stairs, 100 squats, 10 mins of saddlebag workout. Repeat this at least four times a week.

Q. Which foods should one include or exclude to reduce belly fat?

Try to focus on keeping your gut clean. That’s the thumb rule. Also, try this decoction: In 1/2 litre of water, add 1/2 tbsp grated ginger, 1/2 tbsp ajwain, 5-6 mint leaves, 1/2 tsp haldi powder, and a cinnamon stick. Boil them all together for a few minutes, let the concotion cool, strain in a glass jar and keep in the fridge. Consume about 100 ml at a time.
