Kartik Aaryan impressed us all with his portrayal in Love Aaj Kal 2 and I can say that he is back and how! This time, with his latest release, Dhamaka, the actor has given an edge-of-the-seat performance along with Mrunal Thakur doing an equally great job. Apart from Kartik and Mrunal, the film also stars Amruta Subhash and Soham Majumdar in pivotal roles. Full of action and drama, this Ram Madhvani directorial will surely make for a great weekend watch!

And before I begin talking further about the film, have a look at the trailer here:

Dhamaka portrays the life of a radio jockey cum news anchor who is caught in a tricky situation where he is forced to juggle between duties towards his career and his conscience.

Three things I liked about the film:

1. Right pace of succession

The film’s succession in terms of plot and everything that happens around is quick and sets the right pace for the story. The makers have shown the different ways in which media deals with a threat in a witty way.

2. Convincing Performances

A major reason why the film is convincing is the stellar performances given by Kartik, Mrunal, and Amruta. Kartik totally nails the act of a journalist to the point that I forgot for a minute that it was a movie and not a news channel!

3. Amazing Climax

I will not spoil it for you by giving the details, but the unexpected turn of events and Kartik’s character Arjun’s reactions to the situations that he faces make for the perfect climax to an entertaining thriller.

Three things that could have been better in the film:

1. Packed with too many events

There are a lot of events packed into one film which makes me feel that it could have been spread out into two parts of the film. However, the makers have still done a great job in the given time span.

2. Short Screen Time For Mrunal Thakur

Mrunal Thakur could have been given more screen time. While her character was used in an optimum way, I would have loved to see more of her amazing performance.

3. No Detailed Back Story For Anand Mhata’s Character

There should have been an elaborate back story to the character of the terrorist Anand Mhata played by Soham Majumdar.

Altogether, it’s a great film to watch, especially if you are a Kartik Aaryan fan. There is obviously no question about the excellent performances of the actors and the pairing of Kartik and Mrunal was magical. I totally think they should do more films together! Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Ram Madhvani, Dhamaka comes from the director of the likes of Neerja and Aarya. Dhamaka was released today on Netflix.

My verdict- 4/5 stars.
