Since the blockbuster Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor‘s career has been going on an upward trajectory and he totally deserves it. The actor has proven to be a master in his craft and I couldn’t agree more. When Shahid announced his next film, Jersey, I was eager to see him own the big screens again, especially after his previous performance . Yesterday the trailer of Jersey was released and, boy! he is promising to do an amazing job yet again.

Watch the trailer here:

Jersey is the official Hindi remake of the 2019 Telugu film by the same name. It depicts the story of an ex-cricketer who embarks on an inspiring journey to fulfil his son’s wish, and that is something that the Indian audience can’t afford to miss. At the film’s trailer launch, Shahid opened up about his journey with Jersey.

Sharing his thoughts on the Telugu original, the actor said:

I cried buckets, I saw it with Mira and my manager and they both stared at me and asked me why did the meltdown happen. I told them, something deep down had connected with me on this film. Then Kabir Singh happened but this story stayed close to my heart. I wanted to play this character.

Talking about the delay that the film had to face due to Covid, Shahid said:

It was the most collaborative and understanding team I have worked within a long time. When COVID happened, our film shoot was about 50 percent through and Aman Gill decided to stop shooting because it was not safe. We didn’t want to risk it. There was a kid and my dad, who was on set and many others too, there was no vaccine at that time. It took us longer to complete the film so it has been a long journey.

Surprisingly, there was even a time when Shahid had passed on this movie, as he revealed:

You could also say, I tried my best not to do this film. Credit to Gowtam for working with me and waiting for me. I’m so happy I did this movie. I can safely say this is my best film yet.

Jersey is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who had also helmed the National Award-winning Telugu original, and will be releasing on December 31, 2021. The film also features Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur alongside Shahid. So far, after watching the trailer, I have many hopes from the film, and I am pretty sure this is going to be an year-end treat.
