’83 Teaser: Witness Ranveer Singh Recreate India’s Cricket Glory With An Iconic Catch From The 1983 Final

Cricket is no less then a religion in India. People worship cricketers here, we idolise them and when they lose, even hurl abuses at them. Ours is a country obsessed with cricket, and if there is something that is on par with the level of investment from us Indians, it has to be cinema. So, a combination of the two is a lethal one. To represent one of India’s first moments of glory in International Cricket on screen is a mammoth task that comes with huge expectations and I have been waiting with bated breath to live India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup ever since filmmaker Kabir Khan and Ranveer Singh made the announcement of ’83. And the countdown for that wait to be over has begun with a thrilling teaser released by the makers today.

Check out the teaser here:

’83 has been one of the most ambitious projects of not just the film’s team, but the whole of India as it gives a chance to my generation to revisit that moment of pride and glory for our country that we couldn’t witness live. And the teaser just increases that excitement for me. Showing one of the most iconic moments from the 1983 World Cup Final, where Kapil Dev took the game-changing catch of legendary cricketer Vivian Richards putting India on a path to victory, this one-minute teaser surely left me with goosebumps, wanting more. And I am happy to get that soon too as the film’s trailer will be unveiled on November 30, 2021, followed by the film’s release on December 24, 2021.

Ranveer’s immersion in the role of Kapil Dev has been a treat to witness through the pictures and videos released by the makers through the course of the film’s making. Featuring an ensemble cast consisting of actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Saqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Sahil Khattar, Harrdy Sandhu, Jiiva, Ammy Virk and Nishant Dahiya representing the historic Indian team of 1983, along with Deepika Padukone, the film promises history in the making on the big screen.

’83 has been produced by Kabir, Vishnuvardhan Puri, Deepika and Sajid Nadiadwala, and it has been a long wait of about two years for the makers as well as the audience to witness this iconic moment on the big screen and I feel really happy that the makers decided to wait for a theatrical release than compromising on the medium and going direct-to-OTT. Being from a generation born much after the ’83 victory, I wanted to witness history on the 70 mm screen and if the teaser of ’83 is something to go by, it is going to be a wait worth it.
