Scam 1992 directors Hansal Mehta and Jai Mehta had done a wonderful job back in 2020 with the super hit web series. I was so engrossed in watching the series that I finished it in one go, such was the power of storytelling of this father-son duo. After that Hansal went on to direct Chhalaang, which also well received. But now, it seems like the duo are coming together for another very interesting web series.

As per a report by Peeping Moon, Hansal and Jai are working on a thriller, tentatively titled Pirates, that revolves around the story of Somalian Pirates. It is going to be a gritty thriller drama series inspired by actual events. The story is going to be of a large, commercial Indian ship that was hijacked off of the coast of Somalia. The story of the series is crafted by what unfolds further for the crew aboard the pirated ship and how they navigate through unimaginable horrific circumstances. The show highlights the issue of maritime piracy and how it affected many Indian families.

The web series will be released on Disney+Hotstar and is produced by Shaailesh R Singh‘s Karma Media And Entertainment.. It is said to be the biggest coming-of-age action series in India. Deepak Tijori, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Vivek Gomber, Rajat Kapoor, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Gaurav Paswala are reportedly going to be seen portraying the lead roles in the show. Hansal is serving as the showrunner of the project while Jai is solely directing it.

A story about pirates is something that has maybe never been attempted in Indian media, so it automatically makes it an interesting watch. To add to that, the success of Scam 1992 has increased my expectations from this father-son duo, but with a premise like that, I am sure that they will deliver.
