1. Use the right products

A baby’s skin is extremely delicate; you need to be sure of the products you’re using. Try to opt for creams and moisturizers that are natural and are not loaded with chemicals. If you see any dry patches on your baby’s skin, consult a doctor and use a heavy lotion.

2. Choose the right clothes

Winter is about layering, especially if you’re stepping out. Put on one layer extra on your kid, then you’d put on yourself. Choose clothes made out of natural materials to prevent any itchiness and redness.

3. Hydrate your baby

During winters, it’s quite possible that your baby isn’t drinking enough water. Keep a check on their water intake, dehydration also causes dry skin and chapped lips. If your baby has chapped lips, apply little ghee on their lips and navel. It nourishes them from within and prevents chapped lips. Give your baby more juices, soups, buttermilk, etc. in winters.

4. Don’t forget the scalp

Babies have a flaky scalp and it tends to flare up in winters. Do regular oil massages to prevent it and use a natural shampoo to avoid any further dryness.

5. Change bath routine

Bath time is an important time in a baby’s routine. During winters, avoid giving long; warm baths can dry the baby’s skin. Short baths in lukewarm water should do the trick in winters. For infants, you can even opt for sponging instead of giving them a bath daily. Lock in the moisture after bath by applying a thick lotion and sealing in the hydration.

6. Be vigilant of the Diaper Rash

Diaper rashes are very common in babies and they tend to increase during winters. Wipe their inner parts between changes and if possible, leave them diaper-free at least for a couple of minutes between diaper changes. Don’t forget to change the diaper at regular intervals as wet diapers are a breeding ground for multiple infections.

These are just a few tips that will help you throughout the winter season to guard your baby against skin conditions caused by harsh winters. It might look like a lot, but once you have a set routine, you won’t even realise the changes you’re making to keep your baby’s skin soft and supple.
