I have always loved and admired the filmmaking style of Shakun Batra. The director has a way to bring out the aesthetics of the places he shoots in and make them a character of their own. He knows how to bring out performances from his actors that would hit straight right home. Kapoor & Sons is easily my favourite film of all time, something that I watched thrice in theatres and sobbed every time, and still do. So, when it was announced that he was returning to the director’s chair with an untitled relationship drama backed by Karan Johar, I was really excited. And the excitement quadrupled with the announcement of the cast that included Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa. And now we have a date with them.

The film is titled Gehraiyaan and will be releasing direct-to-OTT on Amazon Prime Video. It will be releasing around Republic Day as it starts streaming from January 25, 2022. The teaser video released by the makers today instils a restlessness within you as a viewer, making you curious to find out what is going on between the four characters and the dynamics between them. The soulful music accompanying it just makes it all the more impactful.
What I really love about the introduction video is the range of performance I can see from Deepika. In these few seconds of the film, I can gauge multiple emotions from the actress and she is nailing every one of them. Her chemistry with Siddhant is also something I am really looking forward to. The complicated equations between the four characters would definitely make it an interesting watch. Ananya till date hasn’t really got to explore her intensity on screen with her roles, and seeing the characters that Shakun envisions, I am sure that I will get to see a new side of Ananya and also explore a new talent with Dhairya.
I had been waiting for five years for yet another masterpiece by Shakun Batra after Kapoor & Sons and after seeing this introduction video of Gehraiyaan, I am sure I am in for yet another impactful story. Also, after seeing the banter and chemistry of Siddhant and Ananya off camera, it would be interesting to see how it pans out on the screen, and going by the video, it’s going to be something to watch out for.
