I still remember dancing to ‘Chinta Ta Chita Chita’ in a dance competition during my school days. Such was the aura of the 2012 film Rowdy Rathore and its music. Akshay Kumar in a double role of a cop and a small-time thief impressed me a lot at that time and his chemistry with Sonakshi Sinha was amazing. It was the first time they collaborated and since then, they have been a part of multiple successful films together. It has been almost a decade to the film directed by Prabhudheva and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but it is still as entertaining. In 2019, co-producer of the film, Shabinaa Khan had informed that a sequel to the action-comedy was on the cards, but then there was silence after it. But now, there is some interesting development happening.

In a conversation with Mid-Day, writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, who had written the 2006 Telugu film Vikramarkudu which Rowdy Rathore was a remake of, informed that he is working on the script of the sequel currently.

He said:

“I am currently writing the Rowdy Rathore 2 script. Bhansali saab (Sanjay Leela Bhansali, producer) approached me to write the sequel. I should be able to complete the script soon.”

While the original script was made in Telugu first and then remade in Hindi, the sequel would only be developed in Hindi. The writer also informed that currently he doesn’t have any information about who will be directing the film.

A trade source added:

“Sonakshi Sinha will reprise her role of Paro. While the principal characters of Shiva and Paro are expected to remain in the sequel, the story will not pick up where Rowdy Rathore ended. This will be a completely new narrative. The script will be ready in the next few months, and the movie is expected to go on floors in the end of 2022.”

It will be quite exciting to see the reunion of Akshay and Sonakshi on screen. This will be the successful duo’s sixth film together and I always enjoy seeing their camaraderie on screen. Also, after seeing Akshay as a cop in Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, I am now curious to see if I will get to witness a new cop avatar of him in Rowdy Rathore 2.
