I have always been impressed by the choice of films that Varun Dhawan has undertaken in his nine years in the Hindi film industry. The actor has very efficiently maintained a balance between commerce and arts. And now that he has established himself as a performer, he is making some unique choices with a diverse slate of films, ranging from a romcom to a monster comedy and a biopic, while also working with some prolific makers. Earlier it was reported that Varun and Sajid Nadiadwala were reuniting for a film titled Sanki, and then another film with Nitesh Tiwari as well. And while there have been some recent developments on the latter, a new report has surfaced for the former as well.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, director Ravi Udyawar, who has previously helmed the late Sridevi-starrer Mom, has come on board to direct Sanki that will feature Varun as a cop.

A source close to the development said:

“Sajid sir and Ravi sir have had multiple discussions on the film, and share the same vision for Sanki. They, along with Varun, are really excited to collaborate on this project, and will finalise the shooting dates and other logistics soon. The film is expected to go on the floors sometime in 2022.”

There had been reports earlier that Parineeti Chopra was to star in the film opposite Varun, but there hasn’t been any new development on that front. Meanwhile, Varun and Sajid are first slated to start work on Nitesh’s directorial in early 2022.

Varun is in a reinventing phase of his career with Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Bhediya and Ekkis in the pipeline. He is also reportedly in talks with Rajkumar Hirani for a film and is set to make his OTT debut with the Indian remake of the Amazon Prime Video’s Citadel with Raj and DK, which will supposedly also feature Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Meanwhile, Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are headlining the international version of the series helmed by the Russo brothers. Varun’s choices have always excited me and I am certain that with this slate of projects, the actor is all set to impress yet again.
