Kunal Kemmu has been a brutal force in front of the camera, ever since he made his leading debut with Kalyug. But what I have loved the most about the actor is the recent phase of his career, as with the choices of his roles in the last few years, Kunal has embarked on a journey to reinvent and reestablish himself as an actor. Be it by playing the antagonist in Malang on bringing out his comical side in Lootcase, the actor has never failed to impress me, and seems like now he is ready to take that talent behind the camera as well.

According to a report in Peeping Moon, Kunal is all set to make his directorial debut with a film that he has written himself and is being produced under Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.

A source close to the actor said:

“Kunal has been acting in movies since the age of seven and always wanted to explore filmmaking at some point in his career. He dabbled as a dialogue writer with Raj & DK’s zombie-comedy Go Goa Gone (2013) and the success of that film boosted his confidence to explore scriptwriting further. The two COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 and early 2021 gave him that free time to shape a story that he was toying with for years into a full-fledged script. When Kunal approached the producers with the script they insisted he direct it himself and Kunal bagged the opportunity.”

The report further stated that the film will be a laughter riot set in a crazy world and the budget for it has been approved. It is expected to go into pre-production in early 2022, followed by a two-month, one-go shooting schedule.

I am actually excited to see how Kunal keeps up the momentum of this new phase of his career and channel it into direction. Also, he has been amazing in front of the camera, and I expect him to use that experience to bring out something beautiful through his stories from behind the camera as well.
