It’s been a while since I graduated from my college, and ever since, I have been missing my college life, which I would describe as the ‘best days of my life’. It was there that I had my first brush with the adult world while still living with my child-like enthusiasm. It had the rush of hormones, the heartbreaks, the friendships that I still cherish today and a lifetime of memories – the time we spent on campus has been instrumental in shaping who I am today. It’s always a pleasure to remember those moments and I am looking forward to reliving that phase on screen, from the safety of my home as MX Player is all set to bring alive the college masti with Campus Diaries.

Featuring Harsh Beniwal, Ritvik Sahore, Saloni Gaur, Salonie Patel, Abhinav Sharma and Srishti Ganguli Rindani, Campus Diaries is a coming-of-age drama about these 6 students at Excel University. I have seen a lot of college shows on my TV and digital screens, but what sets this show apart is that it moves beyond the tried and tested subjects of college fun and romance, and also tackles some lesser-touched issues like ragging, discrimination, one-sided love, toxic relationships and drug abuse, amongst other topics.

The last two years have been quite uncertain with the Covid pandemic shutting things down abruptly. A lot of students couldn’t get to experience the college life first-hand and are still limited to the online experience, and I feel for them as the college environment shapes up the person you go on to become. This web series created by Prem Mistry and Abhishek Yadav, is the perfect watch for anyone about to begin their college journey.

The trailer of Campus Diaries was released last month and was met with widespread appreciation by the audience. I have always loved the comic stance of Harsh on his engaging videos on social media, and seeing him explore such diverse range of his emotions in the trailer filled me with pride and excitement. Ritvik, over time, has established himself as a force and seeing him as this one sided lover who is always questioning his relationship, adds a new dimension to his personality. With other cast members like Saloni Gaur, Salonie Patel, Srishti and Abhinav showing such promise of an intense story set in the backdrop that even I have experienced once in my life, it just makes me more curious to watch the series. Also, since Abhinav has been a part of my own college life, considering he was my senior there, I am thrilled to see him on the screen again.

Sharing his experience of working on the show, Ritvik shares:

“Shooting for this series has made me reminisce my college days every time I’ve been on set. The script of this show is one of the best that I’ve ever read. The themes we’ve explored range from love, career, friendship, finding one’s own identity and more, through the lives of these 6 friends studying at Excel University and this is what sets the show apart from others and compelled me to take this up as a project as well.”

His co-star Harsh resonates the feeling as he says:

“It takes more than clearing a few courses to graduate out of college. This is a show about all the non-academic stuff that goes into making your college life memorable. This unusual college story highlights the fun days at the campus but also brings to the fore complications and struggles of life away from home.”

Apart from revisiting my college experience on screen, there is one more factor that makes Campus Diaries a little more exciting for me, and that is that it releases on my birthday, January 7. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to bring in the day and I will be excitedly waiting to binge-watch the series the same day as all its 12 episodes release exclusively on MX Player on January 7 for free. It’s going to be an adventurous ride.
