One of the best things you could do for your skin in winters is give it the nourishment and care that it requires. Weather conditions affect your skin more than you may realise, many skin problems and damage can be avoided once you invest in a skincare routine. With winter comes dry skin, wind burn, winter rashes and more. It’s hard to protect your skin in winter, especially in places like India, which is why we reached out to Ruchita Acharya, Founder of Glow and Green, to give us a winter skincare routine that can protect our skin. Here are 5 steps to protect your skin this winter

1. Facial Wash

Depending on your skin type, pick a good face wash and use it twice a day. Do not use body soap on your face. Body soaps are not created to care for your face but to clean your body. The purpose of face washes is to remove impurities, germs, dirt, and makeup that can irritate the skin. If you wash your face too frequently with a bar or soap that is harsh, your skin is stripped of its natural moisture, making it vulnerable to dryness and irritation.

2. Toner

With a toner, your skin will be gently refreshed without losing its natural moisture. Therefore, toner shouldn’t cause excessive dryness or irritation to sensitive skin. Apply it every morning and evening. You can use it once a day or every other day if your skin gets dry or irritated easily. Rose water is also suggested as a toner for people with sensitive skin.

3. Hydration

This is the primary function of day cream. Your skin will appear softer and smoother when you use this product. You can prevent the feeling of tightness and discomfort on your skin by using a day cream. A cream for day and a cream for night should both contain collagen-boosting peptides and hydrators to promote skin regeneration. The creams have a thicker consistency, but they absorb almost immediately compared to a daily moisturiser.

4. Sunscreen

Yes it’s winter, but the sun is still there. Even if you are planning on staying indoors all the time you must apply sunscreen. At any age, wearing sunscreen is one of the best and easiest ways to protect your skin. Regularly applying sunscreen can prevent sunburns, skin cancer, and premature aging. Long-term exposure to the sun can cause long-term damage to your skin and is one of the leading causes of skin damage. Harsh sun rays can cause hyperpigmentation, sunburn and dark spots as well as an increased risk of skin cancer.

5. Moisturiser

Unmoisturised skin is one of the most common reasons for skin damage, especially in winters. So make sure you use the right moisturiser according to your skin type. It can help you balance your skin if it’s too oily or too dry. You should moisturise every day at the same time, for example, after you take a shower or after shaving.

Winter shouldn’t be the reason for you to lose your glow. Make sure to follow these tips and prepare for the cold accordingly. There is no trick to cure all the skin problems but there is a way to prevent them. Follow these steps, and get a good amount of sleep and follow a healthy diet to look your best this winter!
