Kirti Kulhari has been receiving rave reviews for her intense portrayal of Dr Saira Sabharwal in the recently released medical-drama Human. Now such poignant roles have become synonymous to Kirti as be it Pink, Mission Mangal, Uri: The Surgical Strike or The Girl On The Train, the actress has always picked roles that have an intensity and depth to them. And while I quite love these revolutionary roles as a viewer, for me, Kirti’s debut Bollywood role will always hold a special place in my heart.

Not many are aware that the always firm, serious and intense Kirti on screen, actually began her career in Bollywood 12 years ago as a dumb and naïve girl named Parminder in Khichdi: The Movie. While I admire Kirti’s dedication towards choosing roles that make a difference, I do miss that innocence of the actress on screen, and so does she.

Kirti confides,

“Khichdi is the only film I have watched 10 times in the theatres when it released. I did it because it used to be housefull and I loved sitting with these people who were crazily laughing on every joke, sometimes on even the stupidest things. I used to love seeing that crazy laughter and taking it all in through those people.”

Since Kirti is as excited about Khichdi as me, I wonder if she would like to go back to the comedy genre. Coincidentally, Kirti has recently turned producer, and her first film under that, Nayeka, is actually a dark comedy.

But on doing an out-and-out commercial comedy, Kirti says,

“I do want to. I have been saying this for a long time that I have gotten tired of doing serious roles for a while now. I want to do a comedy. I am quite chirpy, bubbly and light-hearted in life and I want to do something more fun. But you know what, it would be coming very soon as I am working in that direction.”

Kirti is one of those actresses who have raised the bar of their craft with each performance of hers and till date, she continues to do so. Now, she is taking it one step ahead by bringing stories through her own production house and I am excited to see the kind of projects she undertakes.
