The trailer of Akshay Kumar-starrer Prithviraj has intrigued me from the word go and I feel, the Khiladi has completely nailed the look and performance from the glimpse that I get. I can’t wait to see the actor playing this larger-than-life character on-screen. More so, because he continues to raise the bar with every film.

Apart from Akshay, we will also see Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh playing historic characters in Rocket Boys. While Jim will be seen as Dr. Homi J. Bhabha, Ishwak essays the role of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and I’m so impressed from the trailer itself – that I can’t wait to see more.

While I’m looking forward to the performances of these 3 actors, take a look at 6 other actors who have completely rocked their looks and performance in period dramas, on the big-screen and OTT.

Hrithik Roshan in ‘Jodhaa Akbar’

I don’t think any actor could have played the iconic Akbar the way Hrithik Roshan did. I was totally in awe of how he looked and how he performed; sometimes, just his eyes were enough to express and leave a mark. This magnum opus of Ashutosh Gowariker was royal to the tee – and while I could go on praising the film in every department, I’m just going to stick to Hrithik for now and say it was one of his best performances.

Ranveer Singh in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ & ‘Padmaavat’

I don’t know how Ranveer Singh does it – but you see him as Peshwa Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani completely acing it; and then being equally convincing as Khilji in Padmaavat. I don’t think this is a small feat and I don’t know of many actors who have been able to pull off such contrasting characters, back-to-back. He is a chameleon, I must say.

Ajay Devgn in ‘Tanhaji’ & ‘The Legend Of Bhagat Singh’

While Ajay Devgn packed a punch with his performance as Tanhaji in recent times and evoked a strong patriotic feeling among us, one cannot ever forget how well he played Bhagat Singh.  His looks and performances in both these historic films were so good that it has left a mark on the audience for sure.

Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh in ‘Padmaavat’

Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh in Padmaavat stole my heart and how! I was completely in awe seeing him play his character. He looked so handsome as a Rajput and ruler of the Kingdom of Mewar and completely aced the performance with his subtlety. I’m sure many of you fell for him too.

Aditya Seal as Humayun in ‘The Empire’

Aditya Seal was indeed captivating as Humayun in The Empire. He not only left people intimidated with his look and style as he donned jamas and embroidered coats, but also received immense appreciation for his portrayal. His has been one of the most remarkable debuts on OTT.

Aamir Khan in ‘Mangal Pandey’

Aamir Khan’s look in Mangal Pandey : The Rising was the most talked about in town when he was shooting for the film. He made people aware of this iconic historic character who is known to spark the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and the film is not something that the audience will ever forget.

I feel it must have been so challenging for all these actors to pull off such characters that go down in history and yet, such a fab job they’ve done! I can’t wait to see Prithviraj and more of these historic characters come alive on celluloid.
