I have closely followed and admired the evolution of Yami Gautam in the showbiz. I have been in touch with her work from her days in TV, and when she made her film debut with such an impressive performance in Vicky Donor, I was stoked. But I believe, it wasn’t until the last three years that Yami got the recognition and appreciation she deserves, and it all started with URI: The Surgical Strike. Now she has become such a force that she is headlining a project on her own with A Thursday, and the recently released trailer of the film has me in awe of her.

Check out the trailer here:

The trailer opens with Yami as a school teacher who has taken 16 kids hostage to fulfil her demands, and the actress shows a completely new side of her in this dangerous and grey character. Her manipulative side, her command over the screen, the impactful dialogues, all combined make her a force to be reckoned with. Seeing Yami attempt some action as well is a delight for me as it is a complete shift for the actress. Neha Dhupia and Atul Kulkarni as police officers are convincing while Dimple Kapadia as the Prime Minister of India is just breathtaking. The whole story is promising a lot of mystery and power-packed performances and I am completely digging that.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Blue Monkey Films, A Thursday is directed by Behzad Khambata, and the film will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from February 17.

Seeing this new facet of Yami in A Thursday has made my belief in her craft much stronger and it has me rooting for her all the more. The actress is just raising the bar for herself with each performance of her and this one is just going to be a memorable one, I am certain of it.
