3 Red Flags To Watch For On Your 1st Date

Barkha Chawla

The first date is a very important part of the dating process. It can set the tone for your future relationship. If you have a bad first date, it will be harder for you to get a second one. That’s why it’s important to know what red flags to watch out for on your first date. We spoke to Devina Kaur an inspirational speaker, author, radio host, and the founder of the Sexy Brilliant Non-Profit Foundation. In 2019 she was the recipient of the Canadian top 25 immigrant awards. She is also the author of the spiritual self-help book Too Fat, Too Loud, Too Ambitious. Keep reading to know what she had to say about the topic.

It can be challenging to know if you should continue dating someone or not. And it’s even harder when you’re on the first date. It’s easy to get swept away by the excitement of meeting a new person, but there are some red flags that you should watch for. The first date is the make or breaks moment for most people. You either end up with a second date or you don’t. It’s not always easy to know if the person you are on a date with is worth your time.

Here are the 3 red flags that we need to watch out for on a first date:

1. If they seem too eager or desperate

When it comes to dating, there is a fine line between being too eager and desperate. It can be hard to know when your date is crossing that line. The first step is to understand what the other person wants. If they seem too eager or desperate, then this may be a sign that something could be wrong or there is an underlying issue that remains unaddressed. They may also want something from you – money, fame, or casual sex. That’s why it’s important for us to establish boundaries to avoid the possibility of getting hurt. Don’t feel guilty about setting boundaries. The more you know yourself and your needs the easier it is to set boundaries.

2. They talk too much about themselves

This is a common problem when it comes to dating. People often think that talking about themselves will make the other person interested in them. But this is not always the case. In fact, people can find it off-putting and boring if they talk too much about themselves. The best way to avoid talking too much about yourself in a conversation is to ask questions and to actively listen to what the other person has to say. Be sure to give your date a safe space to be who they are. When we practice non-judgment it leads to more acceptance of the self and others.

3. If they seem too clingy or needy

There are many reasons why people may seem clingy or needy in a relationship. One of the most common is that they are insecure and need to feel like they’re needed by you. One way to deal with clingy people is to let them know that you don’t need them. It can be hard, but it saves the heartache that it would have bought if the both of you became exclusive.

Remember, spotting red flags on a first date is not the end of your world. There are plenty of compassionate, divine and like-minded fish in the sea who are deserving of everything that you have to offer.
