I have always been a viewer who has enjoyed reality shows more than fictional ones. Thus, I am always looking for the next interesting show to watch. And last month, I got to see a show that brought me buckets of entertainment for free and today, it is one of the biggest reality shows ever made in India. Ekta R Kapoor‘s Lock Upp has engaged its audience from the word go and I have loved watching ever minute of it. But here’s what I think about how this show has emerged as the most successful reality show on OTT.
What made this ALTBalaji and MX Player show exciting since its inception is the association of Kangana Ranaut with it. It marked the actress’ web debut and she has delivered on what the audience expected from her and more. Her fearless, bold and fair personality makes her one of the best hosts Indian reality shows have ever seen.
After Kangana, its the contestants who made the show a must-watch. With some interesting people from diverse corners and backgrounds, this lot of inmates has always kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would I get to see next. Be it Munawar Faruqi‘s mind games, Shivam Sharma‘s flirty and energetic avatar or Poonam Pandey‘s unique personality, the show has always been ahead of what I have expected.
Karan Kundrra, as the jailor, has proved to be the lucky mascot for the show as his presence has made the show all the more intriguing. His strong personality completely fits the jailor’s description and the actor also pulls it off with utmost suave. He undoubtedly has to be one of my favourite parts of the show.
The wildcard contestants that have entered on the show have just added more spice to the content. Be it Chetan Hansraj, Mandana Karimi, Azma Fallah or the latest entrants Zeeshan Khan and Vinit Kakar, these contestants haven’t let me take my eyes off of them even for a single minute. And thanks to the 24×7 live feed feature, I didn’t have to.
The show has made some daring revelations, with the latest being Payal Rohatgi opening up about resorting to tantric puja to give a push to her career. It has brought out the true personalities of these celebrities in the worst of situations and seeing them in these avatars has been eye opening.
The success of the show reflects in the fact that it crossed 100 million views in just 19 days, setting a new record, making Lock Upp the highest viewed reality show in Indian OTT space. The show assets have garnered around 300 million+ views on the social media platforms and 3.7 billion+ views on short format video apps, and these numbers are just increasing every day.
Lock Upp has been my daily dose of entertainment for the last one month and the drama quotient just keeps increasing every day. My daily schedule consists of a fixed time slot reserved at 10:30 PM for this show on ALTBalaji and MX Player, and getting to see it for free is just the cherry on the cake.
