I have been a makeup junkie for as long as I can remember cause I’ve spent hours holed up in my mother’s dresser rummaging through her nail paints and blush pots. I would smear my face with lipstick thinking I was a pro so it’s no surprise that I want to channel my inner glamazonian as an adult and try out new beauty trends every now and then. Imma be real and tell you that ever since I watched Euphoria, I’ve been bitten by a serious bug and since 2022 is all about revival after spending two years in hiding it comes as no surprise that the maximalist trend is what we’re going to see for a while.

Everything is over the top with beauty, blush draping, luminous glowing skin, metallic and holographic eye shadow, crazy, playful and abstract designs made with eye liners. This list could go on; but since I don’t want to shock myself into the experience I decided the best way to become a bit of a playa is to start by experimenting with the way I wear my eye liner. Read on to see some really cool looks that I will definitely be trying out soonish.

Here are 8 easy to re-create liner looks that’ll give you the push you need to buy yourself colourful eyeliners:

1) Geometric lines

Make a line as long as your eye above the crease line, then make another right under your eyebrow in another colour. So simple, elegant and easy. Love her take on the monochromatic trend too.

2) Undereye liner

This one is super easy, just one swift line to be drawn under the eye in one fell swoop. It will accentuate the under eyes, which are almost always ignored.

3) Double wing

Firstly living for the neon, pastel colour play. All you have to do is pick the first colour to be a major part of your wing that gets extended up to create the almond shape. Stop in the center of your eyelid, take the second colour and continue to complete the almond shape coming to the inner corner of your eye. To complete the look make your second wing under your first one and voila, you are done!

4) Accented liner

Start with the lighter colour from the inner corner of your eye and extend along the lash-line till halfway across. Repeat the same step with the darker liner only this time moving for the outer end to the inner eye and going upward following the shape on one’s eye. Again for maximum impact stop at the mid-way mark thus creating an inner eye accent.

5) Squiggly liner

All you gotta do with this look is make a two-tone wing liner first and then pick a colour and make a curly line across your eye lid, if you’re feeling unsure of this cut out a wavy line on a piece of paper and tape the stencil to your eyelid till you get the hang of it. Repeat step on the other eye.

6) Monarch mix

This one reminds me of the majestic monarch butterfly. It’s a mix of all the styles above. Begin with the inner corner of your eye and drag a nice wing out. Then move to drawing the second liner from the inner corner to the middle of the lower lash line and the other line extended above the eye’s natural arc. Treat your third liner as an outline that extends graphically to your brow and closes loop below your eye.

7) God-rays

Make a floating liner and then pull diagonal strokes from that line, repeat on the lower lash line in long and short lines. Throw in a couple of dots with a gold or silver liner to amp up the glam and shock value.

8) Graphic black

You can never go wrong with a classic black, I know I said colourful but this design was too pretty and easy to give it a skip. You could totes recreate this with an array of colours too. An exaggerated wing liner accompanied with an undereye wing and diagonal lines forming an incomplete triangle on both sides of the nasal ridge.
