Notorious actor and screenwriter Shiv Subramaniam who we saw playing actress Alia Bhatt’s father in the film 2 States, passed away in Mumbai last night (Sunday, 10th April). His last screen outing was in Meenakshi Sundareshwar, where he played Sanya Malhotra‘s on-screen father. While the details of the demise are still unknown, a statement shared by filmmaker Hansal Mehta on Twitter states that the funeral is taking place in Mumbai this morning.

Here’s what the statement reads:

In loving memory of Shiv Subrahmanyam. With profound and heartfelt grief, we wish to inform you of the passing of one of the most dignified and noble souls to inhabit human form – our dearest Shiv Subrahmanyam. Incredibly talented, he was much loved and revered personally as well as professionally. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Divya, her mum, dad, Rohan, Rinki and family; Bhanu chitti and all of Shiv’s family; and his huge legion of friends and fans.


Shiv Subramaniam has been credited for writing screenplays for films like 1942: A Love Story, Parinda, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Teen Patti, etc. On the acting front, we saw him in Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Hichki, Rocky Handsome, Ungli, Stanley Ka Dabba, and many more.
