You’re probably wondering, “Oh, come on, do we really need any MORE beauty brands to jump into this already oversaturated industry?” We know all too well that there’s no dearth of beauty brands in our country, whether that’s skincare, makeup, haircare or even fragrances. We’ve got it all! However, across the borders and the seven seas, our Indian diaspora has been shining too bright when it comes to being beauty entrepreneurs.

In the past few years, the international beauty grapevine has constantly been buzzing with new South-Asian brands being launched. While there are a plethora of international beauty brands that cater to most skincare, makeup and hair care needs— what about the needs of the Indian skin & hair? Who’s going to cater to that? This is exactly why we’ve seen a rise in South-Asian beauty brands based out of USA or Europe lately. Yep, we’re wondering why these haven’t launched in India yet too! Here are some of our favourites.

Indē Wild, Diipa Büller-Khosla

Umm, I’m certain that I’m not the only one who’s been itching to get her hands on some Indē wild! Global influencer, Diipa Büller-Khosla’s brainchild is an amalgamation of ancient Ayurvedic ingredients and modern skincare. Her mother, Dr Sangeeta Khosla being a dermatologist and Ayurvedic just adds the cherry on the top, no? Wanting to create something that counters the rampant colourism Indian women deal with on a daily, she gave birth to Indē Wild. With powerful serums that tackle hyperpigmentation and provide an Ayurvedic alternative to retinol, we’re just counting the days till we can get our hands on this.

Ranavat, Michelle Ranavat

Rooted in ancient royal rituals, Michelle Ranavat decided to create Ranavat in order to celebrate her culture. Always heavily inspired by how devoted Indians have been to their self-care practices, Michelle created Ranavat. Carefully extracted ingredients that are blended together to ensure nothing but the opulent best for your skin and hair, sounds quite enthralling, no? We’re particularly gushing over Ranavat’s hair serum that’s taking the internet by storm. Those hair transformation videos? Ouf! We want those thick tresses too.

Kulfi Beauty, Priyanka Ganjoo

NGL, the moment we heard Kulfi Beauty’s name, it was undeniable that this brand was all about letting yourself have some fun with beauty. Priyanka Ganjoo named it after our absolute fav summer delicacy that comes in a gazillion flavours, as an ode to her fond childhood memories. Their debut product— kajal. Yep, that’s a staple in every Indian woman’s vanity, no? With intense pigmentation that refuses to budge, Kulfi Beauty’s kajals are also very gentle on your eyes. Available in 5 vibrant colours, we can’t wait to play around and go berserk with these.

Live Tinted, Deepica Mutyala

One of the very first beauty brands helmed by a South-Asian woman, Live Tinted was the result of influencer, Deepica Mutyala’s hard work. Created to shed a light on the beauty concerns of melanated individuals, who are often cast to the side, Live Tinted is now one of the most sought-after beauty brands. The huestick, their first product had to be a multipurpose one— not only does it colour correct hyperpigmentation, but also acts as a lip and cheek colour. How cool is that? They also have a beautiful serum-moisturiser hybrid highlighter and an effective sunscreen. Ugh, when can we get our hands on these!

Mango People Cosmetics, Sravya Kalyanapu

When Sravya Kalyanapu realised that most of the existing lipstick shades in the market either washed out Indian skin tones or didn’t show up at all, Mango People Cosmetics was born. Keeping sustainability and inclusivity at the core of all their beliefs, this brand only uses plant-based ingredients that are derived from powerful fruits and plants from the South Asian subcontinent. These multipurpose products are can be used on almost every part of your face, so much fun no?
