A French skincare staple, micellar water cleanses and tones the skin. While most people know the benefits of this wonder product, they may not be aware of the numerous ways we can use it. So, we reached out to Dr. Geetika Srivastava, Dermatologist and Founder of Influennz Clinic, and asked her to share ways we can incorporate micellar water in our skincare routine. Read on to know all that she shared!

Uses Of Micellar Water

1. As a makeup remover

Micellar water has often been promoted as a makeup remover as the tiny micelles in it can effectively remove makeup. Dab a good amount of micellar water on a clean cotton pad and remove the pigmented makeup first around your eyes and lips. Use a separate cotton pad for each eye and lips. Remember to keep eye and lip makeup soaked for a while before removing them to ensure thorough removal.

2. As part of double-cleansing

Whenever you apply makeup, it’s always a good idea to follow micellar water with a cleanser. This removes the deepest makeup, as well as leaves the face fresh and clean.

3. To reapply sunscreen

One cannot stress the importance of SPF in skincare and how sunscreens should be reapplied every 3 hours in order to be effective. However, reapplying sunscreen without cleansing can lead to congestion and breakouts. It is also quite impractical to expect one to cleanse their face every time they want to apply sunscreen. Micellar water can be of help in such situations. It is also very convenient to carry a small bottle of micellar water everywhere. Just wipe your face once with a cotton soaked in micellar water before re-applying SPF. The good news is that you don’t even have to rinse your face with water.

4. Post workout

Post an intense workout, our face is covered with dirt and sweat. Skimping on cleaning your face immediately after your workout, can lead to breakouts. Your micellar water can be used to gently wipe off the dirt and sweat, keeping the skin clean.

1. For congested skin

If your skin is congested and breaking out, it’s a good idea not to use micellar water as it can aggravate your acne.

2. As a replacement to cleanser

Cleansers, by definition, are meant to cleanse your skin. They contain surfactants and are alkaline in nature. Micellar water can never be a replacement for a cleanser meant to cleanse your skin deeply.

3. As a makeup remover

Micellar water cannot remove heavy foundation or even water-resistant mascara effectively. Makeup remover, meant for such heavy makeup, should be used instead of micellar water, in such instances.
