Whoever said they don’t like black is lying; black is always a good idea. Why you ask? It’s a no brainer, everyone’s looks good in black, it works on any skin colour and mood and more than anything it is forgiving. If you’re feeling bloated you’ll still feel like a Bollywood star and a million bucks in black. To be honest, we didn’t need Bollywood to convince us about our love for black but for the few of you who have reservations about the colour. Here’s a laundry list of looks and reasons why you can and should wear black even to formal occasions.

1) Deepika Padukone

If you prefer classic looks then this semi off the shoulder gown with a plunging neckline is perfect for you. This way you get to show off your jewellery too. Look how it hugs her curves effortlessly and makes her look oh so dreamy?

2) Anushka Sharma

Personally my favourite and not for the fainthearted. Anushka opts for a more racy outfit. The gown features a keyhole neckline and cut-out at the waist and as it tapers towards the bottom it reveals a side slit. This dress is elegant but sexy as hell and looks even more unique thanks to the gold body jewellery.

3) Aditi Rao Hydari

This one is more reserved but look so beautiful. Love how Aditi stylex this black lace gown with a head scarf and layered necklaces. Just changes up the entire vibe of the dress. This is when you realise styling is key, cause you can take any look and totally change the vibe of it with a few accessories.

4) Tara Sutaria

Another classic is the fishtail gown that flares out at the bottom, what I love about this look on Tara is the way it hugs her body and that choker, really gives one a good idea of the types of necklaces that work with various necklines.

5) Hina Khan

Hina’s dress is the way I would personally choose to wear lace. The peek-a-boo effect, the neckline, the mix of the short and long hemline. It’s demure and still oozes sex-appeal, the cascading chiffon on the sides of the dress add a touch of drama to her look.

6) Shanaya Kapoor

Shanaya’s cut-out dress is risque and bold for sure, what I like is the velvet fabric and the way the dress moves almost like an optical illusion.

7) Sara Ali Khan

A high-low dress like Sara’s gives a more youthful appearance. The mish-mash of textures is what allows black to be a more interesting choice of colour.
