As summer is slowly taking its leave and the monsoon is approaching, the weather shift can cause some damage to our skin. Due to humidity, our skin becomes oily, dry, and dehydrated all at once. These weather conditions welcome fungal and viral contaminations, an ideal favorable place for skin disease.

As a result, some skin issues that could influence include rashes, itchy skin, eczema, and skin allergies. So, your skin needs some additional pampering during this season. Hence, a good skin care regimen is significant to keep skin issues in control during this season. During monsoon try to keep your skin dry but moisturized to avoid bacterial and fungal infections.

So, we spoke to Dr. Swati Takkar, Cosmetologist from Derma Essentia and she shared with us a few monsoon skincare management tips to keep our skin sparkling all through the season. Here are the 7 basic tips for healthy skin during monsoons:

1. Soap-free Cleansers

Soap-free cleansers are delicate and do not peel off skin’s natural oils, which are essential throughout the year. During monsoon, switch to soap-free face wash to remove oil and grime without drying out your skin. Remember not to over wash your face, even if it feels oily because overwashing leads to excess sebum production and creates some issues like breakouts and clogged pores.

2. Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliation should be a part of your monsoon skincare routine regularly. This exfoliates the skin and leaves it glowing. A weekly scrub improves blood circulation, which aids in the removal of toxins.

3. Use A Toner

Applying toner is very essential because humidity makes your skin greasy and sticky. You can include an alcohol-free toner during monsoon to keep skin healthy and non-oily. You should look for products with antioxidants such as green tea and glycolic acid to maintain a healthy pH level that shrinks enlarged pores and prevent pimples and acne. To minimize pores and remove dirt residue, it’s important to use a toner after cleansing.

4. Use Clay Masks

Summer and monsoon are two seasons when it is difficult to keep excess oil under control. The excessive humidity levels are the main cause. It is recommended to use a face mask at least once a week in addition to a normal skin care regimen. In your monsoon skincare routine, use a clay mask to absorb excess oil and keep oily skin at bay. Aloe vera, green tea, and other antibacterial products can remove bacteria that cause breakouts.

5. Apply Sunscreen

When the rainy season arrives, most individuals make the mistake of quitting sunscreen. The fact that the sun is obscured by clouds does not negate the fact that it has an impact on your skin. UV rays can easily penetrate the skin and cause damage; sunscreen should be used all year, not just in the summer. You can use non-oily sunscreens if you feel greasy in the monsoon. For total protection, use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 and reapply it after 2 hours.

6. Include Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that prevents skin from various problems. It uplifts your immune system and helps you fight illness. Taking citrus fruits in your diet will help you get more vitamins C. Include a vitamin C serum in your monsoon skincare routine to maintain that healthy glow. To offer you radiant, beautiful skin, it fights infections, diminishes blemishes and scars, and delays the signs of age.

7. Avoid Makeup & Hydrate Your Body

Water helps to flush out all toxins from the body and prevents acne and breakouts. Applying cosmetics, on the other hand, can clog your skin pores during the monsoon. If you have to wear makeup, ensure to take it off before you sleep.

8. Use Anti-Fungal Powder

When you’re taking care of your face, don’t forget about your body. In monsoon, fungal infections are particularly common, especially in body folds and grooves, where moisture remains for a long time. As a result, the easiest strategy to avoid infection is to use an anti-fungal dusting powder. Make sure to use some antifungal powder after every shower to avoid infections.

9. Home Remedies

Listed below are some home remedies to avoid skin problems during summer. These remedies hydrate and cool the body and can also soothe and protect the skin.

  • Mix Multani mitti with rose water and apply it to the face.

  • Neem leaves have antiseptic properties. Make a paste of neem leaves in water.

These simple home remedies can give you healthy skin during monsoon.

The Bottom Line

However, by taking the necessary precautions such as frequently washing one’s feet and hands, wearing clean clothes, avoiding polluted and dusty environments, and consulting a dermatologist in the event of severe difficulties, one can easily avoid skin allergies and enjoy the rainy season to the fullest.
