Last night I watched Janhvi Kapoor‘s latest film, GoodLuck Jerry, on the big screen. And throughout the 1 hour, 58 minutes film all I felt was that this beautiful story is meant for the big screen. Well, for those who don’t know, GoodLuck Jerry has had an OTT release today on Disney Plus Hotstar. Coming to the film, directed by Siddharth Sen, and produced by Aanand L. Rai‘s Colour Yellow Productions, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Jaswant Singh Dalal, Sushant Singh, and Mita Vashisht in important roles, GoodLuck Jerry is quite the entertainer. In fact, if you are looking to watch a film that makes you laugh, and leaves you thrilled, this is it. It’s a fun riot, utter chaos, but you enjoy every bit of this chaos.

Before I say anything more about the film, watch GoodLuck Jerry’s trailer here:

Things I liked about GoodLuck Jerry:

1. Janhvi Kapoor as Jerry

I must say, Janhvi is the highlight of the film in every sense. In fact, it is she who breathes life into a rather simple story. And her performance with such a layered character is quite brilliant. While we see dollops of innocence, there is also a gutsy streak that Janhvi has portrayed quite well. In fact, in the second half, the chaos sequence is where Janhvi’s action-packed avatar left me very impressed. All in all, it is Janhvi who makes GoodLuck Jerry an enjoyable experience.

2. Jaswant Singh Dalal aka Timmy

Even though Jaswant’s role in the film might be short (for quite some time he is stretcher bound), for the scenes where he is, the man is quite the charmer. He is so effortless with his performance that you will also develop a soft corner for Timmy at some point in the story. Jaswant has surely made his mark with this film and his character is someone you will remember.

3. The second half of the film

While I loved the first few minutes of the film, it was the second half of the story that grabs your attention strongly. In fact, towards the end, the suspense that Janhvi builds up and the chaos that unfolds is quite fun to watch. To top that all off, there are brilliant punches and reactions delivered by Deepak Dobriyal. I even liked the thrill element that the latter half of the film contained.

4. Deepak Dobriyal and Mita Vashisht

A special mention for Deepak Dobriyal and Mita Vashisht, I have always loved their performances and this time too they are simply brilliant. Though I feel Rinku was quite underutilized, I enjoyed all that Deepak had to offer, but I surely wanted more of it. Especially, the truck scene is where Deepak steals the show and how! Even Mita who played Janhvi’s mother in the film leaves quite an impact, she is a part of the comedy, drama, and action and she aces it in all of it. Like Jaswant and Janhvi, even Mita’s character will linger in your thoughts for long.

Things that could have been better…

1. The story

GoodLuck Jerry‘s writing I felt was a little loosely packed into the story. Even though the actors have done a brilliant job, the first hour of the film needs to have the thrill element that the second part of the film has in abundance. So I feel the makers should have distributed that aspect a little more evenly, for the wait for the story to boom gets a little longer.

2. Songs

I feel the songs in the film could have been better. For some reason, all the songs in the movie fail to strike that chord. So, I believe the music element being stronger would have been a huge plus for the story.

However, I will recommend you to watch this fun tale tucked sweetly by Siddharth Sen. It’s the perfect weekend binge-watch, that will make you laugh, touch your heart and also leave you with some thoughts.

MM Verdict: 3 stars out of 5
