Be it Aligarh, Citylights, Omerta or Scam 1992, Hansal Mehta is one such filmmaker who has fascinated me a lot. You give him any genre, the genius would make it into a mind blowing piece of art. I like the way he treats his story and brings a uniqueness through his storytelling. And now, the filmmaker is all set to make an Applause Entertainment series Gandhi. Interestingly Pratik Gandhi will play the titular character of Mahatma Gandhi in this monumental biopic series.

On directing Gandhi, Hansal says

When you speak of a historic and iconic figure like Mahatma Gandhi, there is already a great deal of responsibility on you as a filmmaker. Our vision with the series is to make it as true-to-life as possible and supported by Ramachandra Guha’s work, we are confident and enthusiastic that we will bring audiences something to remember. With a common vision for this ambitious narrative, I am excited to kickstart a new journey, yet again with Sameer Nair and the team at Applause.

Check out Hansal’s post here:

The series will be based on the books of renowned historian and author Ramchandra Guha. It is mainly adapted from two books- Gandhi before India and Gandhi-The Years that Changed the World. As per the reports, Gandhi will be based on the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle and will be shot in India and abroad.

I also find the project interesting as it comes from Applause Entertainment who had made Scam 1992 with Hansal in 2020. Their collaboration makes me look forward to Gandhi. However, Partik Gandhi being the protagonist in the series is what I am looking forward to the most. He is one of those actors who has the ability to portray any complex character with ease. The combination of Hansal, Pratik and Applause Entertainment looks promising to me and I can’t wait for to appear on our screen.
