Back in 2016, when I was relatively new to the world of journalism, I learnt that the industry was divided into two kinds of films – the massy commercial potboilers, and the art-house cinema. And while both had some defined actors under this category, on the very thin line was standing Gulshan Devaiah who was tasting best of the both worlds. Though he played a Jimmy, there was also a Bhavani that he impressed us with and now the latest addition to his craft has been Samit Patel from Duranga that currently streams on Zee5. Recently, I spoke to Gulshan about his latest outing on the web space alongside actress Drashti Dhami and there were so many interesting things he had to share.

Watch the show’s trailer here:

Talking about the challenges they faced while shooting for the show, Gulshan said,

Drashti (Dhami) got Covid before the show and I got it during the shoot, so that had a little bit of toll on us. I got injured, twisted my ankle and that wasn’t fun. The underwater filming was exhausting.

He even shared all the preparations they underwent for this Hindi adaptation of the Korean show Flower Of Evil.

He shared…

We did a lot of pre-production. I love doing pre-production it gives you enough time to prepare. And if you prepare well, you have no trouble going through all the emotions that are required. At no point did I feel that I was crossing over and its affecting my real life. Sometimes people misunderstand me to be a very serious actor, I am very serious about my job, but not otherwise. I am not in character all the time, that’s not the kind of actor I want to be.

Talking about what he sees in a script before giving it a nod, Gulshan explained…

I have to be interested and intrigued by the part that has been offered to me, and then I have to be interested in the story that is being told. These are paramount.

Gulshan even shared which of his character is close to his heart. He said…

For me Jimmy from Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, even though he was a bad guy, everybody loved him. That’s my favourite.

Well, while it’s hard for me to choose which character is my favourite of Gulshan, his performance in Duranga is surely becoming my fave. The show has been getting quite a great response and I must say it’s huge props to both the actors in it.
