In this day and age of social media, many of us have become quite conscious about ourselves. However, there are a fraction of people who don’t get bogged down by the pressures of new media and reinstating that love and celebration of our true selves Westside have come up with the Limitless campaign where Sameera Reddy and Shahana Goswami were also seen championing the cause of body positivity and self-love. At a recently held event for the same, the ladies spoke about their struggles, societal expectations, and beauty standards too. After this meet and greet, I caught up with Shahana for a quick tete-a-tete, read on to know what she had to say…

On body positivity…

For me body positivity means being able to accept your own being. A lot of people mistake body positivity to be about how someone looks a certain way, it’s really about you being okay and accept who you are. Being conscious about how you look is not a problem, but letting it become an obsession and dictating the way you feel about yourself is a problem. Nothing should take control of your life, sometimes youngsters feel pressure, but allow yourself the spectrum of being completely casual. Be all sides of yourself, there are no hard and fast rules.

On the influence of social media…

Realty versus social media is a big struggle for everybody, but there is enough of great stuff too. Like Limitless by Westside is also out there to encourage people to be real, there will also be this kind of larger than life beauty around you, we can play with all of it.

On self-love…

Self-love is a constantly happening thing, I don’t think we are conditioned or brought up for centuries to actually love ourselves because we have so much judgement towards each other. Always think of yourself as someone you love the most.

On her upcoming projects…

There was Hush Hush on Amazon, there is a film by Nandita Das called Zwigato with Kapil Sharma that will be releasing soon. It has gone to the festivals now, there are few other projects and I will let those announcements happen.

Well, I am truly inspired by what Shahana has to say and I am sure you agree too.
