What a year 2022 has been for films in India. Blockbusters, mega blockbusters, films joining the 400crore club, and so much more that happened this year. Stories came in from across the country and were well received by the audience, despite language barriers. And that is the beauty of cinema! Here are some films that I believe, you cannot miss out on from the year 2022.

1. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Bollywood truly came to life on screen with this movie. The acting, music, cinematography and so much more made this movie the blockbuster that it was. Sanjay Leela Bhansali did a stellar job with this film, like always. He never seems to disappoint. A lot of this credit also goes to Alia Bhatt for bring the character to life on screen.

2. Brahmastra

A cinematic masterpiece that starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt was a massive hit and how! This brain child of Ayan Mukerji  was in the works for nine years. Watching this movie was a surreal experience for me in the theaters and for many others. It surely is one of the most talked about films this year.

3. Drishyam 2

After the major success of Drishyam 1, Drishyam 2 was bound to be a hit. This iconic film, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu entered the 100 crore club after an astounding response from the audience. A crisp script, and suspense that kept me on my toes, truly stole the show.

3. RRR

This power packed film starring mega stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR could easily be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. It also made history being the first Indian song to  shortlist at the 2023 Academy Awards under the Best Original Song Category along with getting shortlisted for Best Non English Film.

4. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

The film is a good example on how to crack the comedy-horror genre. It does give you the spooks, but also then manages to lighten the mood with a few jokes. Kartik Aaryan has made his presence felt at all times with his larger than life personality in the film.

5. Drishyam 2

After the major success of Drishyam 1, Drishyam 2 was bound to be a hit. This iconic film, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu entered the 100 crore club after an astounding response from the audience. A crisp script, and suspense that kept me on my toes, truly stole the show.

6. JugJugg Jeeyo

This multi-starrer film with its power packed song and great performances. It was refreshing to see Varun Dhawan being emotive on screen. The bonds between the actors truly reflected on screen as they played a big happy family that had its own set of flaws. It was also Prajakta’s Kohli’s debut film as she played Varun’s younger sister who was clueless about their happenings of her family. A must watch if you are the big family drama kind of movie watcher.

7. Kashmir Files

This heart wrenching film, is based on the struggles of the Kashmiri Pandits in the valley. It will take you on a roller coaster of emotions and won’t leave any stone unturned to make you look away from the camera.

8. Kantara

The film turned out to be a massive hit in Karnataka and was also dubbed in Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi as well and that worked like a charm. The film garnered a total of 400cr box office collection that’s 25x its budget. It was all and all a Rishab Shetty film and he owned it with his directing and acting.

9. Radhe Shyam

Prabhas in this movie took the cake with his acting. What also stood out for me, are the visuals of this film. This film also starred Pooja Hegde and was a blockbuster and garnered around 200 crores. This love saga caused a storm in cinemas all across.

10. KGF 2

What a year it has been for Kannada cinema, KGF 2 set the bar really high with its astounding success. The response was based off the love the audience gave KGF 1. The wait was long, but I bet it was worth it. Yash is the showrunner and his energy throughout the film is hard to match up to.

11. Sita Ramam

It was exciting for me to finally catch an Indian period drama with a touch of romance. The film revolves around Ramam and Sita, played by Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur respectively. Ram who is a Lieutenant is smitten by the brave yet dreamy Sita and hopes to win her heart. But fate had other plans and the two are separated which leads a quest you should unravel by watching the film!

I am sure you must’ve watched half of these before I listed them out for you, but make sure you tick off each of these, because these are blockbusters you shouldn’t be missing out on this year.
