I have been watching and enjoying Rohit Shetty‘s films since I was a child. Be it a Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, Singham, or even a Simbaa, it was the larger-than-life experience that the director has always celebrated. Around Christmas this year, Rohit had yet another film released under the Rohit Shetty Picturez banner called Cirkus. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Pooja Hegde, Jacquline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, and many more actors from the Golmaal universe. While the film doesn’t seem to have been well-received by the audience, reading some very strong opinions and comments on social media makes me wonder, if the bad fate of one film can put such a big question mark on someone’s genius.

Sadly, many of us have been forgetting that Rohit is the same man who has given us some brilliant films, then how can one film’s failure write him off? While reading some comments online, I saw people have called Cirkus outdated, obsolete, repetitive, boring, and whatnot, but those were never the parameters the film had to be judged on, neither was Rohit’s credibility dependent on these elements. Right from the film’s first look, Rohit had made it clear that the film is an entertainer, and I think that’s what it did, it lived up to the promise of giving us a good time, making us laugh, unwinding us before the year ended. In fact, many of us seem to have forgotten that out of the 15 films that Rohit has given us on the big screen, 12 of them have been blockbusters.

Being someone who has met the director, I can say that his motive to entertain has always been pure. He is always true to his words, he made a film for his audience to have a good time, and I am sure most of them did. What I also love about the filmmaker is that he never hesitates from taking a risk when it comes to his films. It is not just the cars flying aspect I am talking about here, even when theatres opened up after the pandemic, Shetty’s Sooryavanshi was the first film to release. That’s how passionate Mr. Shetty is when it comes to entertaining his audiences. As for the business, it’s always unpredictable, but that doesn’t define Rohit’s brilliance as a storyteller. So what if one of his films didn’t resonate with the masses, I still love the amazing stories he has given us. Chennai Express still cracks me up and I am sure that he will continue to bring the best to us. The new year has just begun, and the blockbuster filmmaker already has a lot in the pipeline, from Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra starrer Indian Police Force to Ajay Devgn starrer Singham Again, and of course Golmaal 5.

So yes, brace yourselves for this man who many are criticizing right now will bounce back with a bigger blockbuster. For now, he is looking at expanding his cop universe and I am certain that he will take this little failure as a stepping stone to success, here’s sending more power to you, Rohit.
