I have always been very fascinated with films that have been inspired by Indian mythology, turns out Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan‘s upcoming film Shaakuntalam is also based on an epic love story from the Mahabharata. While watching the trailer I was totally mind-blown at the scale at which the film has mounted. Right from the first frame, you get the feels of Baahubali meets Padmavat. And as the trailer progresses, Samantha’s portrayal of Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as King Dushyant grab your attention and how. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be to watch this film on the big screen.

Watch Shaakuntalam’s trailer here:

For those who don’t know, Shaakuntalam is based on Kalidasa’s internationally acclaimed Sanskrit play ‘Abhijnana Shakuntalam’. The film is all set to release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam & Kannada. The story revolves around the epic love story of Shakuntala (played by Samantha) and King Dushyant (played by Dev Mohan) from Mahabharata. The film is helmed by Gunasekhar and marks a whimsical tale of love set in the Kashyapa Kanumalu (Kashmir), the grandeur and splendor of Dushyant’s Puru Dynasty make the film quite the magnum opus watch out for.

This multi-lingual film has been produced by Neelima Guna and is slated to release on the big screen worldwide on 17th February. I am legit waiting for this one.
