When you look back at a film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Devdas is one iconic film that has had a massive impact on the Indian Film Industry with its storyline, stellar cast and some of the most iconic songs out there. It starred names like Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. Some of these songs have stayed with me even after 21 years of their release and still manage to tug on my heartstrings. Here are my top favourite songs from the film…
1. Dola Re Dola
This song will be remembered for ages for the iconic dance of Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai. The song was equally iconic for its high-energy vocals and music.
2. Maar Daala
Madhuri was an absolute stunner in this one with her green Anarkali that shook the entire nation. The pain and longing emoted in this video, combined with her dance choreography, made for the perfect song in a film like Devdas.
3. Humesha Tumko Chaha
The pain in this music video and the song will truly make you feel for Aishwarya and Shahrukh’s characters. The bloodshot eyes brimming with tears really captivate you and the lyrics will have you tear up without a doubt.
4. Sheeshe Se Sheesha Takraiye
This song truly embodies the friendship Jackie Shroff and Shahrukh share in the film. The two are seen lifting up their spirits with spirits in their hands, dancing to the tunes of Madhuri Dixit, trying their best to drown away al their sorrows.
5. Bairi Piya
The song stars SRK and Aishwarya and really brings out the innocent love that the two love birds shared. The song takes us on an emotional journey of the two meeting after a very long time, and the longing in each other’s eyes really takes the cake for me.
Devdas for me will always be special for its songs blended beautifully with its plot, and these are some of the songs that have always managed to tug onto my heartstrings.
