Apart from our parents, it is our teachers that have a very big impact on our lives. They teach us things beyond the syllabus and those are the things that stay with us throughout our lives. On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, let’s take a look at some Bollywood films, that reminded us of our teachers. Those who held our hands every time we struggled, or taught us to persevere despite all odds.
1. Taare Zameen Par
This film starring Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safari struck a chord with many and was based on a deeply personal story. Ishaan whose parents could not point out as to what could help their child, was helped by a new teacher in his boarding school who made him believe in himself again.
2. 3 Idiots
3 Idiots showed us the various flaws in the Indian Educational System and how a teacher can mould and shape a student’s life. When Rancho doesn’t get the support and the kind of teaching he thought he deserved, he goes on to take up teaching as a profession and adopts an innovative teaching method.
3. Hichki
This film Hichki starring Rani Mukerji, takes us on the journey of a teacher with a never-give-up attitude. With Tourette Syndrome, she joins an elite school, and soon turns her weakness into her biggest strength and this also leaves a lesson with her students.
4. Super 30
The film is based on the true story of Anand Kumar, played by Hrithik Roshan, a tutor who started free coaching for poor students in Bihar in the mid-90s. Super 30 showed us the impact a good and dedicated teacher can have on its students, and a good education does not necessarily have to come from reputed and expensive schools and colleges.
5. Chak De! India
This film starred Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan, a hockey coach returning to train the Women’s Hockey Team, after facing a lot of backlash. He takes on the job of teaching them to push their limits, create a sense of unity in the team and most of all, help them reach the final goal of lifting the trophy.
