R. Madhavan, a seasoned actor known for his versatility and thoughtful approach to his craft, recently revealed a distinctive method he employs to assess directors. The actor shared that he secretly auditions his directors by giving them ‘wrong suggestions’ on set. This unconventional and intriguing approach sheds light on Madhavan’s commitment to ensuring a harmonious collaboration and his desire to work with directors who can navigate creative challenges with skill and adaptability.

In an interview with Film Companion, R. Madhavan disclosed that he tests his directors by deliberately offering ‘wrong suggestions’ during the filmmaking process. This unique approach serves as a way for the actor to gauge the director’s response, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills. He also added saying that he insists on doing screen tests, not to fit the role he’s trying for, but in fact to see whether the director knows what they are doing. He further added by saying how he does not distinguish between a debutante director and an experienced one because a good subject is so difficult to come by.

R Madhavan has a Netflix series out now, ‘Railway Men’ which also stars Babil Khan, Kay Kay Menon and Divyenndu Sharma. Check out the trailer above.
