The 2008 British drama film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ starring Dev Patel, Frieda Pinto, and Anil Kapoor was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009, out of which it won eight. The film also won seven BAFTA awards and performed exceptionally well at the box office. An interesting fact about the film is that Shah Rukh rejected a role in it. The role of host in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was played by Anil Kapoor; however, it was offered to Shah Rukh Khan as well. Shah Rukh Khan reflected on the role during a conversation at the recently held World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai. “Slumdog was there, now that you mention it. And I spend a lot of time with Mr. Boyle. He’s very sweet. But I was doing ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ (Kaun Banega Crorepati) on television, successfully at that time. And I just felt in the story that was being told, the guy who was hosting was very mean, in the story that was being told,” Shah Rukh Khan shared.

When Shah Rukh Khan was offered this role in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, he was hosting the Indian version of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’, known as ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, which we all grew up watching. But stating the difference between his onscreen persona and the character in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, he rejected the film. Shah Rukh Khan’s next project is yet to be announced, but as per media reports, the actor has signed a film with Sujoy Ghosh that will also feature his daughter Suhana Khan. With blockbuster films like ‘Jawan’, ‘Pathaan’, and ‘Dunki’, Shah Rukh Khan had a pretty phenomenal year at the box office. Here’s hoping to see more of SRK onscreen this year too!
