His upcoming sports drama ‘Maidaan’ is no exception, as it tells the inspiring true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, an unsung hero who elevated Indian football to new heights. However, the journey to bring this tale of triumph to audiences has been fraught with challenges, as producer Boney Kapoor recently revealed. The team faced not one, but two major set backs while filming. Boney Kapoor recounted the logistical nightmare of coordinating shoots amidst the pandemic, with players and technicians flying in from various parts of the world, only to be met with repeated lockdowns.
One of the major setbacks faced by the makers of ‘Maidaan’ was the Mumbai Cyclone in 2019, which wreaked havoc on their meticulously crafted sets. The destruction caused significant delays and financial losses, testing the resilience of the entire team. Despite the adversity, Boney Kapoor expressed his gratitude for the unwavering commitment of the cast and crew, who remained steadfast in their determination to see the project through to completion. The challenges didn’t end there. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic added another layer of complexity, disrupting filming schedules and forcing the team to navigate through unprecedented circumstances. As lockdowns came and went, the sets in Madh, Mumbai, stood silent for three and a half years, a constant reminder of the hurdles they had to overcome.
