Alia Bhatt is celebrating her 31st birthday today, March 15, and it feels like it was yesterday when this charming girl made her debut in ‘Student of the Year’. We’ve seen the evolution of this wonderful actor from being a fresh face to one of the finest talents in Bollywood. As she celebrates her special day, here are five memorable roles of the National Award winner:

1. Dear Zindagi

The 2016 coming-of-age drama film ‘Dear Zindagi’ is definitely one of my favorite performances by Alia Bhatt. Directed by Gauri Shinde, the plot of the movie revolved around the importance of mental health and also starred Shah Rukh Khan as a psychologist who helps Alia’s character ‘Kaira’ see life from a different perspective.

2. Udta Punjab

The plot of ‘Udta Punjab’ starring an ensemble cast of Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh revolved around drug abuse by the youth population in the state of Punjab and shed light on various issues surrounding it. Alia Bhatt’s portrayal of a victim of human trafficking struggling with her drug addiction received critical praise, as it was a challenging and truly emotional role to play.

3. Highway

‘Highway’ was released worldwide around 10 years ago on February 21, 2014, and the intriguing story of the film revolves around the character of ‘Veera’, played by Alia Bhatt, and her kidnapper, ‘Mahabir’, played by Randeep Hood, as the pair take on an unusual road trip filled with twists, turns, and self-discovery.

4. Raazi

‘Raazi’ directed by Meghna Gulzar saw Alia Bhatt in the role of ‘Sehmat Syed’, an Indian spy married to a Pakistani army officer. An adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel ‘Calling Sehmat’, the film also starred Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, and the spy thriller received significant praise from the critics.

5. Gangubai Kathiawadi

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ based on the life of Gangubai, whose story was documented in the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’, written by S. Hussain Zaidi, saw Alia Bhatt in the fierce character of a brothel owner in the world of Kamathipura. Alia Bhatt received wide praise for her powerful dialogue delivery and screen presence.
