I went in thinking this was just another soldier-based movie that Bollywood was churning out, but little did I know what was waiting for me. Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna, and Disha Patani, was so much more than just an action film. Directed by the debut duo Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre, this film took me by surprise, with its underlying emotions at all times. Arun Katiyal, a fearless soldier stole my heart and how. I do not usually remember character names, but this one rang strong and loud throughout the film, establishing a strong bond with the audience. The characters in his life also soon start to make their way to your heart as the film progresses, and so does Sidharth’s undeniable charm. It may be directed by Sagar and Pushkar but it certainly does have a Karan Johar touch to it, as a producer.
It was not just the action bits that kept me on my toes, but the twists and turns that came along the way of Arun played by Sidharth, trying his best to do away with the ‘traitor’ tag that falls upon him, due to a mission that does not go as planned and leads to a national crisis. The film keeps you questioning whether Arun is a traitor to the nation or a warrior? Raashii Khanna comes in strong as a level-headed wife, and a very strong performance. And talking of female leads, Disha Patani is no less in the film. She makes her impact on the screen with her power-packed performance, and her action-packed performance will leave you floored. I surely could not take my eyes off her. The film’s massy dialogues got quite a few hoots from the audience in the theatre and some even stay with you. The music and especially B Praak’s voice adds a whole another level of emotions to the film and I was all here for it!

There were however bits that caught me quite off guard, like why is a soldier lighting up tricolor firebombs after a successful mission? Sure adds a cinematic touch, but at what cost? There were times when I thought the movie would end, and another villain sequence would start over, and it left you wondering, now what more and why. Another note I would leave behind is the fact that Bollywood needs to move beyond the ‘Pakistan’ plot, but this one was rather a balanced and neutral one. Overall, it was an entertainer and how. It kept me glued to my seat, and reaching for my popcorn, if you’re looking for a thrilling action-packed watch with some great strong performances, Yodha is the film for you!
