One of my vivid memories of growing up is watching Kareena Kapoor Khan as ‘Geet’ in ‘Jab We Met’ and Deepika Padukone as ‘Meera’ in ‘Love Aaj Kal’, and both these actors and these iconic films remain evergreen and refreshing watches for me till date. An interesting fact about both of these films is that they’re directed by Imtiaz Ali, and the filmmaker, in a recent interview, was asked to choose a better performer between Kareena and Deepika. In conversation with Connect FM Canada, Imtiaz Ali was asked to choose between ‘Jab We Met’, which he directed, and ‘Cocktail’, which he wrote, and the filmmaker chose the 2007 romantic comedy film ‘Jab We Met’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. He was further asked to choose a better performer between Kareena Kapoor Khan in ‘Jab We Met’ and Deepika Padukone in ‘Cocktail’, to which Imtiaz Ali replied, “Very tough, but let me say Kareena because I was the director.”
Imtiaz Ali is one of my favorite filmmakers out there! His films resonate so deeply with youth, and the concept of unconditional love is beautifully portrayed in his creations. In fact, the music of his films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Tamasha’, ‘Jab We Met’, and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ has aged like fine wine and rules the playlists! The director is currently gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, which is set to release on April 12, 2024.
