A happy family going on a relaxing and fun getaway is in for a terrifying surprise. ‘Shaitaan’ is set on a plot of spooky events created from the effects of black magic that will leave you saying, “What The Hell!” in most parts. The Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, and Jyotika starrer do create a sense of eeriness as one proceeds with watching the movie that stays with you even after the movie ends. However, I was hoping for the moments of impact to be a little more hard-hitting.

Shaitaan Movie Review

Shaitaan‘ takes it’s sweet time to show you how close-knit and happy this family truly is. 15 minutes later, all I wanted to say was, “Alright, we get it! Let’s get to the creepy, freaky bits.” Finally, when the effects of the act (no, not giving you spoilers of how it happened) begin, I must admit there were gasps from disbelief in the theatre with thoughts, does this really happen IRL? Ajay Devgn (Kabir) can be seen in the full-blown ‘Drishyam’ dad mode just placed in a supernatural setup. R. Madhavan(Vanraj) kept me at the edge of my seat with his cynical character and mind-blowing performance… can you blame me if I actually started to dislike this guy? Jyotika is a treat to watch on-screen. Janvi Bodiwala (Janvi) enthralls with her fab performance, especially in the scene where she has emotes in a varied manner within a few seconds. Angad Raaj (Dhruv) sure was the chota packet, bada dhamaka in this movie.

Unfortunately, some of the ‘scary’ parts were revealed in the trailer, leaving only the freaky end of the movie as the surprise element. The movie seems a little dragged in bits, but the unpredictable end balances this one out. The voice modulation done for R. Madhavan god man scenes definitely left me with goosebumps. All in all, ‘Shaitaan’ is a great watch for those intrigued by the supernatural.
