Are the BLACKPINK Stars Eligible for the ‘Best New Artist’ Nominations in the 2025 Grammy Awards?
The big question surrounding the immense solo success of the BLACKPINK members is, ‘Will they be eligible for solo nominations for New Artist?’ at the 68th Grammy Awards.
Well, the short answer is no. The Grammy rules state otherwise.
Journalist Jeff Benjamin highlighted the same in a post on social platform X, referencing the Hits Daily Double Report.
This was confirmed according to a report from Hits Daily Double, which states how ‘rules stipulate that once an artist has achieved ‘prominence’ with a group, that artist becomes ineligible for a nomination in this category.’
What Exactly Is The Eligibility Criteria For Best Artist?
The Grammys’s official website gives a better look at the picture, defining a ‘new artist’ as someone who’s released an album that helped them establish their public identity during the eligibility year.
The ineligibility criteria deem an artist as ineligible for the category if they’ve previously been nominated for a Grammy in a performance category. This rule applies unless this nomination was for a single or a feature spot on a track not belonging to the artist or if the artist had not yet released a full album.
The criteria also state how an artist must have released 5-30 singles or 3 albums to qualify in this category.
Fans Have Voiced Their Disappointment
Fans across social media have voiced their disappointment surrounding the same, stating how the Grammys are too used to snubbing artists—like they’ve snubbed The Weeknd and BTS in the past.
Official Nominations Yet To Come Out—BLACKPINK May Still Have A Chance
While anticipation and rumors always run rampant right before the Grammys, it’s important to keep in mind that the official list of nominations is still not out yet.
The Hits Double Daily report also gave fans a bit of hope, stating that there might be some loopholes that allow the BLACKPINK members to be eligible for the nominations.
Whether BLACKPINK’s members are nominated or not remains to be seen, but in our opinion—given the amazing new music and newfound success of each individual member—their nominations would be well deserved.
