How Vishal Bhardwaj Came Calling
At the time, Priyanka was filming Dostana in Miami alongside Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham when an unexpected call changed everything. “I saw a missed call from Vishal Bhardwaj. What?? I had wanted to work with him forever and never thought he would cast me because of my ‘commercial’ image at the time,” she wrote.
To her surprise, the acclaimed filmmaker even flew to Miami to narrate the story. Though Priyanka initially pointed out that her character had “approximately 8 scenes,” Bhardwaj assured her that together they would build something far more impactful. “Trust me,” he had said. And she did.
Priyanka Chopra Says Kaminey Role Redefined Her Image
Sweety Bhope, a fiery Maharashtrian girl in love with Shahid Kapoor’s character, may not have had extensive screen time, but Priyanka’s portrayal left a strong impact. Looking back, she called Kaminey a turning point, sharing, “I learned so much from the master @vishalrbhardwaj—how to research, prepare, and then surrender to the part.”
Priyanka also praised her co-actors, calling Shahid Kapoor “sensational” in his double role and Amol Gupte “unforgettable.” She further recalled meeting producer Mubina Rattonsey for the first time on the sets.
