The Punjabi film world is deeply saddened by the loss of veteran actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, who passed away at 65. Reports say he had a brain stroke on Wednesday and was taken to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Doctors mentioned he had lost a lot of blood, and he passed away early Friday morning.

A much-loved personality in Punjabi entertainment, Bhalla was famous for his comedic talent and roles in hit films like Carry On Jatta, Mahaul Theek Hai, Jija Ji, Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, Kabaddi Once Again, Apan Phir Milange, Mel Kara De Rabba, Jatt & Juliet, and Jatt Airways. He started his career in 1988 with the comedy series Chhankata 88, which made him a favorite among Punjabi audiences.

Gippy Grewal shared his feelings on social media, paying a heartfelt tribute. Describing Bhalla as a “father, mentor, and talented actor,” he wrote, “It’s hard to believe. His work will keep his legacy alive, and he’ll always be remembered for the impact he made. I’ll cherish our memories and what he taught me.”

Many political leaders also expressed their sadness. AAP leader Manish Sisodia called the news “very sad” and prayed for strength for Bhalla’s family. Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared a touching message: “Losing Jaswinder Bhalla Ji so suddenly is very painful. The silence of Chhankata’s jingle feels heavy. May Waheguru help him find peace. Chacha Chatra will always be in our hearts.”

His last rites are scheduled for Saturday, August 23.
