Major Mohit Sharma’s Parent’s Seek Stay From Delhi HC On Dhurandhar Release. More Details Inside!

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ parents of Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal recipient Late Major Mohit Sharma have come to the Delhi High Court to get an urgent stay on the release of the action thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. Their petition, as per the report by Bar & Bench, alleges that the film borrows significant parts of the officer’s life without the family’s and the Indian Army’s consent.

Major Mohit Sharma’s Family Files Complaint Against Dhurandhar

As per the complaint, the film seems to reflect Major Sharma’s undercover operations, his medal-winning exploits, and his heroic sacrifice. The family insists that if the film is based on the life of the decorated officer, the producers must first obtain approval before unveiling confidential operations or private details. They point out that the life of a martyr is not a commodity for sale, unless it is done with the proper handling, correctness, and permission.

The petitioners, in their argument, state that the production of a life story of a martyred army personnel without the required authorisation is a violation of the dignity, negates the truth, and impinges on the family’s rights to privacy. They also added that such a portrayal constitutes a violation of the personal rights of the martyr after death as enshrined in Article 21 of the Constitution.

Another issue highlighted in the petition is closely related to national security. The family points out that the movie depicts the use of operational strategies, infiltration methods, and highly sensitive tactics by the Special Forces. They maintain that there is no indication that the filmmakers had the necessary clearances or the script was approved by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the authority that supervises the portrayal of the Army in the media.

The petition identifies the Information and Broadcasting Union Ministry, CBFC, ADGPI, director Aditya Dhar, and Jio Studios as the respondents. Major Sharma’s family through the Court has sought the suspension of the film’s release until they are granted a private screening of the film. Apart from this, they have moved the Court for a broader Directive in which it will be made Mandatory for Filmmakers to obtain the Clearance of the Army and Consent of the Family in the event of a Film Project in the form of National Heroes.

The petition is with counsel Roopenshu Pratap Singh and Manish Sharma of Samaanta Law Firm. The hearing date will be intimated next week.
