A celebration of music and culture at the Me’Gong Festival in Meghalaya took a dark turn on Sunday night when Kanika Kapoor was physically groped by an audience member who got up on the stage during the show. Kanika Kapoor Groped On Stage In Meghalaya
While Kanika was singing, a man from the audience came up on the stage and, after grabbing her leg, he went for a hug with her until the security guys stopped him. A video of the incident at the concert shows the artist looking startled as the guards forcibly remove the intruder. In spite of the upsetting event, Kanika still made up her mind to keep on with the show, firmly holding her ground while the crowd was in a state of shock.
Parts of the event quickly went viral on different social media platforms, where people came to know about the event and showed their reactions in terms of anger and concern. A user of social media said that women in India are not safe even in broad daylight, whereas another commented by asking what the man was thinking and that such behavior deserves imprisonment. A lot of people have criticized the event’s crowd management, expressing that it is scandalous that a person could so easily break through the stage and thus get access to the area.
This is the latest in a series of incidents with fans that have been a source of trouble for celebrities during the current year. At the Totally Wicked premiere, a man coming out of nowhere asking for a hug, thus worrying Ariana Grande, was quickly settled by co-star Cynthia Erivo. At the Cherry Blossom Festival 2025, a security person had to act fast and get in the way when a fan tried to get up to rapper Tyga’s stage and in the process, the attacker made the security person fall.
Not so far away, Punjabi singer Karan Aujla was put in a different situation that was equally disturbing during his Rolling Loud India concert in Mumbai when a T-shirt thrown from the crowd hit him in the face. Karan Aujla was quick to turn the awkward incident into a funny one by slowly wiping his face with the shirt and then throwing it back.
